Pioneering is all about using basic and advanced outdoor skills to get things done, to make life in the outdoors easier, and for just having plain ole-fashioned good times.
This kind of fun is timeless! To build a good pioneering structure requires rope, wood, good sense, and skill, and when completed, there’s a satisfying feeling of accomplishment and success.
But there are reasons for Pioneering other than the fact that, generally speaking, Scouts like doing it. Lord Baden-Powell wrote: “I am inclined to suggest to Scouters that in addition to the technical details of knotting, lashing, and anchorages, there is an educative value in Pioneering since it gives elementary training in stresses, mensuration, etc . Pioneering develops initiative and resourcefulness, and it gives practice in teamwork and discipline. In other words, Pioneering is practical and character building: the two essential ingredients of any programme material for Scouts.”
This conference provides the information and hands-on experiences to develop or improve an effective and successful pioneering program in your unit, district, or council. Conference participants will review the most straightforward approaches to presenting pioneering skills, and participate in fun-filled pioneering activities that invariably contribute to making Scout meetings fun with positive outcomes. Additionally, an array of useful camp gadgets and impressive pioneering projects will be built that can be enjoyed and appreciated by Scouts back home.
